About Us

Ray Mason comes to auctioning with experience on both sides of the gavel. Before attending Mendenhall School of Auctioneering and receiving his Virginia Auctioneer's License, he was chief clerk for Pearson Auctions.

In addition to clerking all the auctions, the Pearsons depended on his expertise and knowledge of collectibles, glassware, art deco, 20th Century furnishings and his flair for uncovering a special uncovered treasure buried in mundane offerings.

A graduate of Evangel college in Springfield Mo., he first worked as an accountant but the lure of travel took him to the airline business in 1993.

Having acquired his love of auctions from his Grandfather in Orange VA, he started attending local auctions in his spare time and gradually ended up assisting the auctioneer. He loves being with the public and he loves antiques and collectibles which makes Auctioneering a natural way of life for him.

His son Jordan is a junior at the University of Virginia and Ray's parents, Don and Shelby Mason live in Marshall, VA. Don and Shelby, retired now from their careers, are part of the Mason Auction team.

Mason offers a wide range of services to the public. In addition to traditional Auctions (items offered to the highest bidder), he also offers Estate and Tag Sales and on-line auction experience. A recent graduate of Certified Appraisal School of America (C.A.G.A.), he also offers certified appraisals in personal property. Mason realized that "times are changing" and with subdivision and community homes, condos and townhouses, parking is often at a minimum, making an on site "Estate or Tag Sale" more workable. He still believes that an auction achieves "Fair Market Value" and disburses an entire household in one day better than any other means, but other venues are available now to help any situation.

Hunt Country Auctions offers a team of experienced folk: Don and Shelby Mason have been working with Pearson Auctions for many years and will be handling bookkeeping; Barbara and Jim Malinowski offer tremendous expertise - she acting as auction manager and in collectibles and Estate Sale planning; he in collectible coin and other areas (computer etc); Nic and Anne Burhans -he with special knowledge in electronics and Anne in Books; Robert Moore with knowledge of Country and old store collectibles as well as military; Erica Vernon is the lead auction clerk and you may even see her husband Al lending a hand when there is an offering that includes farm equipment or machinery; Jose Garcia in charge of set up and knowledge of garden and Oriental collectibles rounds out this very experienced team.
